Soliris

People pay billions of dollars in prescription medicine every year. But just what medicine qualifies as the most expensive of them all?

That medicine, according to Forbes, is Soliris. Soliris is made by Alexion Pharmaceuticals and is used to treat paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, otherwise known as PNH. PNH is a form of anemia, but it’s an extremely rare form. Instead of being inherited, as other forms of anemia are, PNH is acquired. What also differentiates PNH from other forms of anemia is the fact that instead of the body having a low production of red blood cells, as is the case with common forms of anemia, the body actually destroys red blood cells. This not only makes PNH much rarer, but also much more dangerous.

PNH is so rare that it’s estimated that only about 8,000 Americans suffer from it. Because of this, Alexion Pharmaceuticals doesn’t have many people competing with them in regards to the medication for it. And it’s because there are no competitors for it that Alexion can charge $409,500.

Fenway Park

Have you ever taken your family to a baseball game? If you have, you know that it can cost as much as taking your family on a mini-vacation. With food, drinks, souvenirs, and that’s not even to mention the tickets! All of this adds up to a lot of cash for a family of four just to enjoy an afternoon at the ballpark. But, what ballpark will cost your family the most?

According to the Fan Cost Index of Major League Baseball, the title of the world’s most expensive ballpark for fans to attend is Fenway Park. The Fan Cost Index tallies its totals by comparing certain prices of different ballparks. How it works is that it takes a family package which includes: two adult tickets and two children’s tickets; four small soft drinks; two small hot drinks; two programs; and parking fees, and compares these prices for all of the ballparks that host Major League Baseball games.

This total cost for Fenway Park was $334.78, which is a lot of dough to spend in three hours! Following closely behind Fenway Park is Wrigley Field, which has a total cost on the Fan Cost Index of $329.74. And coming in third on the Index is Yankee Stadium, which will cost a family of four a total of $316.32.

And while the Boston Red Sox may have the most expensive stadium for fans to enjoy, there’s also no doubt that they have some of the most loyal fans in the baseball world. And that each and every one of them thinks that every dime spent at Fenway Park, is a dime well spent!

London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic

Many parents have one main fear when they take their children to the dentist. And that’s finding out that they’re child needs braces. This is because orthodontist appointments, maintaining the braces, and the price of the braces themselves, all add up to a lot of money. And that’s money that parents don’t often have. Well for those parents who have just found out that they need to shell out huge dollars for their child’s braces, reading about the world’s most expensive braces may help them feel just a little bit better!

The braces are a creation of the London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic, and they’re perhaps some of the prettiest braces one could ever wear – although you won’t be able to see them while they’re affixed to teeth in a mouth. These braces are made of course, from gold alloy. The Clinic uses a 3D scanner and casts made of wax in order to create a totally customized pair of braces for the wearer. Not only does this make the braces much more comfortable for the wearer, but it also allows them to speak perfectly clear, which can’t be said for other braces.

And they attach to the back of the tooth so that no one can ever see them as they help repair the teeth. But, once it’s time to get those braces out, the actual braces turn into a stunning piece of jewelry. (Just don’t think about where it’s been.) The price for these couture braces are 4,000 to 8,500 pounds, or anywhere from $6,000 to $13,000 USD.
