Most Expensive iPad 2It’s been exactly 10 months since we brought you the world’s most expensive rectangle and now we bring you the world’s most expensive iPad 2……almost.

This time instead of looking for some diamond encrusted piece of bling that almost no one could afford and even less would want, we decided to compare retail pricing across the globe and maybe get some insight into who Steve Jobs likes or doesn’t.

Since Steve is American it is no wonder that citizens of the U.S. can buy the iPad 2 for the lowest retail price in the world; $499.99. and with the declining U.S. dollar it seems to be a better deal every day.

You could argue that Steve does not care much for Hong Kong as if you want the latest iPad version it’ll set you back the equivalent of $1,900.00 but bear in mind it hasn’t yet been officially released there yet.

Seems the real poor folk that have made Steve’s naughty, not nice list reside in Denmark where the same iPad will set them back the equivalent of $702.00 , almost 30% more than in the U.S.

So to you Steve Jobs: skål.

Back in 1953 Hugh Hefner decided to create a magazine for adults called Stag Party but luckily for us a popular outdoor magazine, Stag, contested the name so Hefner came up with Playboy. The first issue featured Marilyn Monroe on the cover wearing a very, very low cut top that was the center of much controversy during that time. The photo was taken during the 1952 Miss America Parade, and the picture that appeared inside the magazine was intended to be used for a calendar.

Due to the fact that Hugh wasn’t sure if the magazine would succeed there were two things missing on the cover of the first issue; the actual issue number and more importantly, the Playboy bunny which made it’s debut on issue #2.

If you’re looking to pick up a piece of bunny history be careful of fakes floating around and the reprint from 2007, which makes it even more difficult to distinguish the worthy original. The reprint has a black rectangle in the upper right corner and uses three staples to bind it together. The original print does not have the black rectangle and it only uses two staples along its binding.

The original print run was of 53,991 copies and at 50¢ each they sold out in just 2 weeks.

Ready to invest? Even without the bunny the first and most expensive issue of Playboy will set you back a furry $6,500.00 USD.

Soliris

People pay billions of dollars in prescription medicine every year. But just what medicine qualifies as the most expensive of them all?

That medicine, according to Forbes, is Soliris. Soliris is made by Alexion Pharmaceuticals and is used to treat paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, otherwise known as PNH. PNH is a form of anemia, but it’s an extremely rare form. Instead of being inherited, as other forms of anemia are, PNH is acquired. What also differentiates PNH from other forms of anemia is the fact that instead of the body having a low production of red blood cells, as is the case with common forms of anemia, the body actually destroys red blood cells. This not only makes PNH much rarer, but also much more dangerous.

PNH is so rare that it’s estimated that only about 8,000 Americans suffer from it. Because of this, Alexion Pharmaceuticals doesn’t have many people competing with them in regards to the medication for it. And it’s because there are no competitors for it that Alexion can charge $409,500.

London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic

Many parents have one main fear when they take their children to the dentist. And that’s finding out that they’re child needs braces. This is because orthodontist appointments, maintaining the braces, and the price of the braces themselves, all add up to a lot of money. And that’s money that parents don’t often have. Well for those parents who have just found out that they need to shell out huge dollars for their child’s braces, reading about the world’s most expensive braces may help them feel just a little bit better!

The braces are a creation of the London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic, and they’re perhaps some of the prettiest braces one could ever wear – although you won’t be able to see them while they’re affixed to teeth in a mouth. These braces are made of course, from gold alloy. The Clinic uses a 3D scanner and casts made of wax in order to create a totally customized pair of braces for the wearer. Not only does this make the braces much more comfortable for the wearer, but it also allows them to speak perfectly clear, which can’t be said for other braces.

And they attach to the back of the tooth so that no one can ever see them as they help repair the teeth. But, once it’s time to get those braces out, the actual braces turn into a stunning piece of jewelry. (Just don’t think about where it’s been.) The price for these couture braces are 4,000 to 8,500 pounds, or anywhere from $6,000 to $13,000 USD.
