For reference: United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED) = $.27 USD.

Plate #55555 sold for 2 million dirhams.

Plate #12 sold for 8.9 million dirhams.

Plate #5 sold for 25.2 million dirhams or $6.8 million (the most expensive license plate at the time).

In 2008 the United Arab Emirates held another  license plate auction, this time plate #1 was up for grabs.

The license plate was purchased by Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri for a sandy $14.3 million USD.

The Eclipse took 4 years to build and was designed by Hermidas Atabeyki with naval designed by Bloom&Voss and Terence Disdale, and interior design by Terence Disdale and Greenline Yacht.

Here is a list of features of the Eclipse:

  • 167 meters or 557 feet long.
  • 6,000 square metres of living space.
  • 9 decks.
  • Elevator.
  • 11 guest cabins including 2 VIP suites.
  • Housing for up to 80 crew members.
  • 2 helicopter landing pads.
  • 2 swimming pools, one of which is the world’s largest onboard swimming pool.
  • A fitness studio, hairdresser, sauna, steambath and whirlpool.
  • A small theater, library, restaurant, and small private garden on the deck.
  • A submarine.
  • An anti rocket systems for preventing terrorist attacks and is fully bullet-proof.
  • 20 jet-skis stored inside the ship.

To run the yacht, one day at sea costs €80,000 or $98,640.00, but that’s nothing compared to the salty €500 million or $616.5  million USD that Roman Abramovich paid for the Eclipse.
