I know it’s the middle of June, but Christmas is exactly 6 months away and I am in a festive spirit.
The Twelve Days of Christmas are the festive days beginning Christmas Day (December 25) with the Twelfth Day of Christmas being January 5. This period is also known as Christmastide.
The Twelve Days of Christmas is also an English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of increasingly grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas. Although first published in England in 1780, textual evidence may indicate the song is French in origin.
The Christmas Price Index is a tongue-in-cheek economic indicator, maintained by the U.S. bank PNC Financial Services, which tracks the cost of the items in the carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
With that in mind, the most expensive twelve days of Christmas occurred in 2009 and just for you we have a full breakdown.
On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.
Day 1: $159.99
A partridge will run you $10.00 and a pear tree will add another $149.99. The pear tree comes from a Philadelphia nursery and the partridge prices are determined by the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.
On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
Day 2: $215.97
One turtledove can be had for $27.99 so two will run you $55.98 and add to that the partridge in a pear tree and you’re at $215.97 for the day. The turtledove prices are also determined by the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.
Total after day 2: $375.96

my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
